Arantec Engineering will technically make possible the bidirectional exchange of data from the Garona river basin through Smarty Planet stations, after the signing of the agreement between the Conselh Generau d’Aran and the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro (CHE).

Arantec Enginnering is responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of the 15 hydrometeorological stations owned by the Conselh Generau d’Aran in the Val d’Aran and also develops projects for the Confederación Hidrográfica del Ebro.

The agreement signed last December of 2017 by the Sindic d’Aran, Carlos Barrera and by the president of the CHE, Raimundo Lafuente, obeys the need to exchange data between both institutions as a result of the experience of the great episode of floods of the month of June of the year 2013 in the Val d’ Aran.

The experience of 2013 showed the need to exchange and complement the hydrometeorological data, generated by all the agents present in the Garona River basin, with the aim of providing a better response to extraordinary episodes of precipitation or increased flows in the head of the basin.

Thanks to the new typology of the stations, nowadays you can count on more data, especially in small basins and in the headwaters of the rivers. The parameters that are measured are the level of the rivers, the flows, the intensity of the rain, the temperature and the humidity. The main function to measure these parameters and obtain data is to generate warnings and alerts in case of flood hazard.

The frequency of data acquisition will be every 15 minutes during 24 hours a day.

The hydrometeorological stations of the Conselh General d’Aran are located in Aiguamòg, Aubèrt, Betren, Escunhau, Joeu, Les, Pont d’Arró, Pont de Vielha, Pont de Lop, Salient, Toran, Tredòs, Unhola, Valarties and Varradòs.

The hydrometric stations of the CHE are in Bossòst, Valarties and Arties, and the rain gauges in Pla de Beret and Arties.

The data obtained will be made available to Pompièrs e Emergéncies d’Aran SL, which exercises the competences of the management of emergency services and civil protection in the Val d’Aran, which will be used for planning emergencies, notices to the authorities and the population, as well as in the programming and implementation of operational resources.

The collaboration agreement will have a validity of 4 years, extendable for four more years, a period that should allow carrying out tests, tests or practices with a fairly broad useful life in order to make the results obtained more reliable and the tests can be posing in the long term.
