Surface Flow Velocity Radar

Non contact measurement of water’s speed and data analysis with Smartyplanet

Surface velocity radar is the ideal solution for non-contact measurements of the surface velocity of the flow.

Its technology allows a quick and simple installation of the sensor on the water surface and requires minimal maintenance. It can be installed in rivers, canals or pipes.

Radars are rugged and durable as they are designed to withstand adverse weather conditions.

It is integrated by an inclination sensor and automatic compensation of this one that allows to obtain the speed of the current.

The radar is designed to work in two modes.

In regular mode it provides speed readings in open channels of 20 times per second whereas if the low power mode is activated the radar only takes readings once per second, better managing the autonomy of the battery without affecting the accuracy of the readings .

The radar sensor is certified to European and American standards. It is currently installed all over the world.

The data measured by surface speed radar are recorded and analyzed by the Smartyplanet web platform thanks to its full compatibility.

Description

Surface speed radar uses radar technology to provide precise contactless measurement of flow velocity.
Its technology allows a quick and simple installation of the sensor on the water surface and requires minimal maintenance.
The flowmeter is used to monitor the flow velocity of open channels such as rivers, irrigation canals or sewer systems, and for monitoring and control of hydroelectric plants and wastewater treatment plants.
The radar operates in the K-band and provides flow rate readings 20 times per second over serial (RS-232, RS-485) and CAN interfaces.
It is designed to operate in two modes that can be configured through PC control:
  • In regular mode, the radar provides speed readings of 20 times per second on open channels.
  • In low power mode, however, the radar provides a speed reading per second with the same accuracy as in regular mode.
The sensor performs the readings by measuring the tilt angle by means of an integrated sensor and the flow rate measurement is automatically corrected by cosine according to the measured mounting tilt angle.
The radar sensor is certified to European and American standards.
Radar Configuration Software
Smartyplanet provides user-friendly software to configure RSS-2-300 Water Flow Radar Configurator for free.
The software connects to the RSS-2-300 W radar via the serial port and can be used to configure the radar operating parameters. In addition, the Configurator utility also displays the measured flow rate over time. This allows users to change the output data protocol, change and configure various measurement and averaging algorithms and control radar orientation.
The RSS-2-300 Water Flow Radar Configurator runs on Windows XP or later, both 32-bit and 64-bit.
